The gallery was the vision of Sanford Smith, long time fixture in the New York art world, known for producing art and antiques shows including Modernism, Works on Paper, Art of the 20th Century and The Outsider Art Fair.
We specialize in 20th century and contemporary art. Our 20th century inventory includes fine works on paper by Reginald Marsh, George Bellows, John Marin, Charles Burchfield, Arthur Dove, Thomas Hart Benton, Jacob Lawrence, Will Barnet and John Flannagan. Contemporary works include pastels by Wolf Kahn, prints by Jim Dine, April Gornik, Robert Cottingham and Suzanne Caporeal and mixed media by Judy Pfaff.
Smith who owned a marine gallery in New York for many years also showcases classic nineteenth and twentieth century works by Antonio Jacobsen, Anton Otto Fisher, James Gale Tyler, Albert Nemethy and other American marine artists along with a superb work by English marine artist Samuel Walters.
Western work, particularly bronzes, are also a specialty of Smith’s. He has represented and long maintained an inventory of the work of Harry Jackson, the idiomatic descendant of Frederick Remington and certainly the greatest living sculptor in the genre.
