Robert Cottingham was born in Brooklyn in 1935. He was educated at Pratt Institute. Cottingham's work is found in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago; the Arts Council of Great Britain; the Guggenheim Museum; the Hamburg Museum; the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden; the Metropolitan Museum of Art; the Museum of Modern Art; and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
