Wolf Kahn was born in Stuttgart Germany in 1927, where his father was director of the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1939 Wolf was sent to England with a children’s refugee transport, and in 1940 he was able to join his family in the United States.
Wolf graduated from New York’s High School of Music and Art in 1945. He studied briefly with the painter Stuart Davis. In 1947 he entered Hans Hoffman’s school in New York. Wolf is now considered one of the premiere landscape painters of our time. He is a member of the National Academy of Design and the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He divides his time between New York City and his farm near Brattleboro, Vermont.
