Adam Straus was born in Florida in 1956, and moved to New York City in 1990. He received his BA from Miami-Dade Community College in 1976, and his MFA from Florida State University in 1982. Straus's work is found in the collections of the Mead Art Museum, and the Art Museum at F.I.U., Miami, FL. Straus’ work is characterized by scenes of unbelievable natural beauty, sometimes possessing an element of danger or futility. Straus considers himself a political artist, using his paintings to communicate his environmentalist values and to urge his viewers to become more involved in the political process.
